CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE ICE AGE

Ever since the Earth has first started cooling some 2.5 to 3 billion years ago, there have been about a dozen ice ages lasting at least hundreds of millions of years. The first being the Huronian ice age which lasted from around 2.4 to around 2 billion years ago. In addition, there have been several shorter periods over the last million years with the most recent peaking about 18,000 years ago, right up unto the warming period of some 12,000 years ago.

As opposed to global warming, there are some who predict that a new ice age is about the come upon. Some scientists predict that the initial signs of it will begin to show somewhere within the 2030’s.

In between the ice ages there have been varying warming periods, some hot and some moderate which allowed different animal and plant life to establish itself and grow. Our ancestors, the Homo Erectus goes back to approximately 2 million years ago, and our direct ancestors, Homo sapiens, first appeared approximately 200,000 years ago. Because of the then current ice age, the development of the Homo Sapiens took nearly 185 thousand years before advancing enough to establish civilizations….If one had to analyze, it can be said that we have come a long way over the last 12 to 15 thousand years, a fete no other animal on earth has become close to achieving.

Unfortunately, our doomsayers are saying that unless we change our ways, global warming will bring about the end of our civilizations. To a degree, I concur with their accusations that mankind is contributing to it. The argument comes in how the different government approach handling it, some of which can only contribute to the fall of civilization as we know it. While they may have a minor ally in me, the one thing that our fear mongers constantly ignore is Mother Nature herself. She has thousands upon thousands of ways, both terrestrial and extraterrestrial, that flicking her fickle finger she can destroy us…the ways are too numerous to even begin listing here. Also, there may be the possibility that the next decade or two may be the advent to a new ice age which may very well counteract the threats of global warming.

Looking back upon our history, once again, we have come a long way – from the creating of civilizations to our present day cures for disease and our exploring experiences and worlds beyond our own planet. I am not saying that we should be ignoring any consequences of global warming, but we must also be aware that there is a myriad of other perils that can severely endanger us. To be able to confront these possible threats we must not only establish our defenses against them, but we must be able to extend the life of the human species and many of our animals and plant life we must also be seeking survival off of planet Earth and within our solar system, and centuries and millennia beyond within our galaxy and perhaps beyond. I am human. All who read this are human. I, personally, believe that aside from competing to enslave and destroy others, we also have that unique faculty of improving and preserving human and other forms of life.

  1. Wow. Interesting Blog! I am reading your blogs because my friends told me to view your interesting site.

  2. I also had kinda same-like experience before that it felt like an angel was reminding me of something. I totally…
